News for Rayburn Users - if yours is an OF7 or OF22

I  recently converted a Rayburn OF22.in Chillbolton near Andover  From COLD a pint of water boiled in 15 minutes. Once the cooker had been run for 30 minutes we put another pint on to boil- this time 4 minutes! Start to finish the whole job was done in less than 5 hours

With the SUMMER BAFFLE fitted the cooker ran for nearly an hour before switching off on its stat - giving a 400oF oven heat and a tank of hot water and 3 upstairs rads were warm - all on gravity circulation( pump deliberately left off)

Prices?  See our section marked Frequently Asked Questions - FAQs on left!

OF22 conversion now  installed near Larne in Northern Ireland and Snugburners are  available from our agents there ( Peter Dewdney &  H&F Conversions in Cashel in Eire . Contact details in TRADE SECTION )

Graham Lake, my Technical Director, can be called if you need info , but it's all on this website for TRADE Engineers

We can offer you Rayburn cookers with a fitted Snugburner , via www.tradccokers.com from only £2200.

Letter from a Customer with OF22
" Just a quick letter to let you know how we are getting on with the Snugburner.
For someone like myself of average handyman ability (!) the installation was very straight forward.
I took my time to ensure everything was in line with the instructions provided. Despite this the
whole job took no more than 4 hours.
With everything in place Graham visited to do the final commissioning of the burner. Once this was
done we fired her up and after approx 45 mins all 6 rads were too hot to touch! Big difference to
the previous wick burner.
In fact we switched to the smaller nozzle to reduce consumption even more. There is still plenty
of heat to keep the cottage warm, cook the tea and ample hot water.
All in all a total success.
Thanks again for all your help.
Warm(!) regards, Nick Mould (Sandbach, Cheshire)"
Time for you to convert your OF22? See other customers comments under OF22 section.

Summer setting on OF22's.We now testing a bafflle which really cuts down the boiler heat input on the OF22 Rayburn - so your Snugburner will cook without hot rads   More details on request - but fitted in minutes by yourself

We are visiting the OFTEC road shows &  getting more Engineers to install the Snugburners .If your OF22 is a little bit tired, don't forget our sister company can supply lid liners, new boilers, side panels ,rear panels, oven racks ,plate racks etc! All on www.agafixspares.com.

If you want ANOTHER cooker our other firm www.tradcookers.com has many in stock ,left hand or right hand ,in several colours with or without the Snugburner fitted. Prices from £2200-£3200 with new Snugburner ,delivery anywhere!

CUSTOMER REPORT
I would like to say how very please we are with the OF22 conversion, as you know when I first made contact

with you our oil bill was £176 per month which was only just keeping up with our supply and the rising oil prices!!
Since installing the burner conversion our fuel bill has more than halved (and still dropping)!!
It has also been an absolute god send in the summer months because the kitchen is no longer like a sauna!

What does it cost to run YOUR OF22?
Aga list consumption at 18-25 GALLONS a week = £37 to £50 a week at 50p a litre
Our burner switches off once your house is warm ( up to 9 rads)
it will switch off and only fire again when the stat calls for heat. This can be further controlled
( just like a normal central heating boiler) by the use of room stat, tank stat, rad thermo valves, time clock etc)

The matt brown 80's OF22 belongs to  a nice lady near Romsey in Hants - she had the Supreme solid fuel removed as the coal was too much for her. The house is now HOTTER and the oven was at 6'oclock after 2 hours burning - that's 200oC ideal for the roast. It's running 5 big rads in an old farmhouse and she can now take off the furry waistcoat!

Cooker cost £2200 inc our new Snugburner conversion in 1996 - conversion into yours around £1950 subject to distances.

the claret one is working near Pulborough, West Sussex

The Rayburn OF22 and G33 share a common body & similar boiler- with only a slight difference. Our kit fits both with only 2 pieces of ceramic that are different (we supply all to both conversions)

The OF22 was designed in the day of cheap oil. It didn't matter that it used 18-25 gallons of oil a WEEK (that's 85 to 113 litres at 50p= £42.50 a week - Ouch!) to heat only 22,000 btus heating - 5 average sized rads. The G33 was a bit better- 33,000 btus a week out of its twin gas burners.

This is a 208K. Its being stripped shortly and a new OF35 central heating boiler fitted - and the Snugburner. When finished it will look the same but heat

35,000 btus or 9 rads. We can do this with YOUR old OF7 or gas version G7 . If you are TRADE I will help you set up doing the same!

The matt black one cooked a lovely meal (in our test lab!) when I asked Graham for a cooking efficiency report!

John has just finished fitting his OF7 with a Snugburner in Aberystwyth . I am attaching an extract from his mail to me - for all you careful DIY'ers out there!

  1. "Just to thank you for your help with the installation, I know it took longer than planned but due to a combination of wanting to get it right, following the instructions slavishly instead of via common sense  and a bit of bad luck I'm pretty proud to have managed it without major tears!

We ran it all last evening, the hot plate even at 150C was roasting and we managed to cook on it for the first time ever! So finally we can use it for its proper purpose which is brilliant. Turned it off overnight to save fuel and back on again on low heat this morning to take the chill off, 30 minutes from cold to 130C and then it was off for an hour before re-firing. Noise levels are much better than anticipated and all we can hear is the jet burning, fan is virtually silent (maybe once the burner has been adjusted it may be quieter, I noticed when it started up with the hotplate off that it was a big flame (6 inches or so) and very yellow so maybe needs a tweak). Our kitchen is a traditional farmhouse variety and we live in there, the Rayburn is between us and the TV and we didn't even have to turn the volume up so that gives some idea of the sound levels - quieter than the fan heater we've been using to keep warm while the Rayburn was dead! Only slight disadvantage we've found so far is the thermostat level - cools a bit too much before it fires up again (about 40-50 Fahrenheit) which means having to tweak the control whilst using the hotplate to keep it constant, this is only an observation though and not a problem. Just the engineer to locate now (I believe our neighbour has a pressure jet Rayburn conversion so I will ask him). "

  2. NOT BAD FOR AN AMATEUR! WELL DONE JOHN.

The old twin trough burners were at best about 50% efficient - a lot less as the carbon built up in the troughs and pipework .Servicing was a NIGHTMARE - I know, I did it for several years! Ours is 79%or more  efficient (heat to water) .The other 21% heats the oven, hob, room & chimney!

By fitting the Snugburner in place of the existing burners you do away with the BM control valve mounted on the cooker side, increase the heat output to about 8-9 rads performance and allow the use of modern heating controls such as a room stat, tank stat, time clock etc .This allows you to BOTH go to work secure in the knowledge that the cooker can slumber all day, firing up to warm house, hob and oven ready to cook dinner when you get in .

I know it's SABLE but some people still like it! This example in Upwell, Cambs is heating a 3 bed house completely, plus hot water and cooking. Shows Mark ! burner - The SKY BLUE, shows the  Mark 2 burner ..

We offer this conversion as a BOILER CONTROLLED burner i.e. the oven heat is a by product of the heating being on. If you have 2 rads by removing the baffles ( 3 easily accessed from above) it concentrates the heat on the oven. If you have 9 rads leave the baffles in for maximum heat through the boiler. It's NOT a perfect system - neither was the twin trough burners - but this uses a LOT LESS FUEL and hob performance is startling! We think its a lot better than a new 400 series at £5K +!

When ordering this conversion please tell us all about your cooker and what it heats- we can supply the burner "tuned" to your needs. It will also cope with a small under floor heating system, and is controllable by the usual time clock, room stat , tank stat system that most heating systems use. Hot water output - extremely good!

Fitting. easily managed in a day, .this burner needs a permanent ELECTRICITY SUPPLY (usually through a timer) .It can be fitted on a SEALED SYSTEM (ask) .most vital tools to fit  are a JUNIOR HACK SAW and a VACUUM CLEANER!

Noise. Not quiet as quiet as the Snugburner's Aga but very close( that has a lot more sound deadening cast iron around it) . A trade off for the savings on the oil is that the burner is at about 53 decibel output - similar to usual ambient kitchen noise.#

Servicing. Once a year . Replace nozzle, clean fan, maybe change blast tube, repack insulation around burner.

Oven Chips Forget them! You have a MUCH HOTTER HOB with our burner so can get back to real chips! Stir frys are also much easier.

What's it look like? You cannot see the burner & through your side panel is  run a power cable and 6mm oil pipe -no more BM control valve! The original chimney cover is re-used with an insert if a gas converted machine.

Costs. The usual price of a fitted Snugburner into your cooker is about £1950 but this is subject to distance from our engineer's base and any additional work you may require to improve efficiency of your heating system.
