Aga Delux 56-74

Aga running costs. How we can SAVE YOU A FORTUNE!!    Updated November 22, 2009. oil slightly cheaper now but for how long?

The 2 oven oil Aga ( factory made or a conversion) uses a BM control valve that meters the flow from 4cc's a minute to 8ccs maximum. So that's 1 litre in 4 hours minimum or 6 litres a day , at say 60p a litre = £3.60 a day or £25.30  a week - double that when the cooker is

on High Fire. If you average it at 6cc's then your Aga is drinking 63 litres a week so that's £39.69 a week

Lets say you decide to cook just a quick toast 'n coffee breakfast and a roast evening meal - you both go out to work daytimes.

6am Aga comes on ,using a £3 timeclock

7am - kettle boils ,toast cooked, maybe time for a boiled egg? Ok, it was only an idea!

7.30 Aga switches off

4pm - Aga switches on , gets to 200oC + by 7pm . Home from work, steaks on hob or quick roast in oven, Hotplates MUCH hotter so no more oven chips - maybe a stir fry in a wok ( NOW POSSIBLE!)

8pm .Finish cooking, Aga off 'til 6am

THAT'S HALF THE RUNNING COST OF A NORMAL OIL AGA

This is what it looks like, converted

The model we like the best! Why? Because of the useful shelf across the back, and the ONE PIECE HOB on the 4 oven version. You may be interested to know that Aga are now selling the 4 oven Diesel model at £7800 to over £10,000 with a module.
When available we supply a fully refurbished version for £5995 with guarantee - saving you nearly £2000.

We offer the Snugburner conversion Mark 2 now. This is because Graham has made it more "engineer friendly to fit". How's that?
The burner is now set out on 3 plates.

Firstly the mounting  plate is fitted to the cooker. Dependant  on model you may have to drill and tap 4 x 1/4" threads into the inner cast iron housing .This plate is already cut and drilled and has 4 threaded studs welded to it , so the burner plate simply slides on to it and bolts up.
The final plate is the thin cover plate, which carries the oven thermostat. So when you need to service the burner its MUCH easier not to have to worry about the oven stat .which simply stay in place but the cover lifts off for access to the burner.

Notes. The 6 mm bundy oil pipe comes UP from the air space under the fan unit .It doesn't touch it- that might cause vibration noise. The orange unit with green neon is our integral timer , allowing 3 minutes firing then 3 minutes resting. The oil pump is on the left , with the easy accessible connection for your pressure gauge on the top. The flying leads are deliberate - they connect to the oven stat which is just in the photo on the Aga's left - allowing it to moved away whilst you work on the burner.

The cover is on - all you do to control the cooker is turn up the stat knob!

This photo shows the mounting plate in place ready to receive the burner.

Our burner will fit later oil ( and gas) Agas with the slightly shallower ash pit , and deeper spacer.

Disclaimer . Glynwed PLC , and AGAFOOD the manufacturers of the famous Aga / Rayburn cookers do not approve of fuel conversions - all such conversions mentioned are made by independent' engineering firms .All views expressed are PERSONAL and not "official " Aga / Rayburn policy.

trade enquiries welcomed - more news as it happens! Complete cooker or conversion kits will be available to you, with technical back up.

Why convert to Pressure Jet?

All AGA's made since 1941 can be converted to oil, gas or LPG .Also most Rayburns. This section tells you more! Most NON central heating Rayburns can be converted from solid fuel to gas , oil or LPG fuels; small OIL Rayburns (OF7)can be converted to either gas , and vice versa i.e. Gas G7 versions can convert to OIL. DON Heating Products have supplied conversions for 60+ years - we are agents for them, as well as others who make conversions including OILWARM LTD

For some time the quality of UK oil has been getting worse- thicker, more like French oil. This causes a quick build up of carbon and leads to loss of heat, i.e. your burner needs a service. Both the manufacturers ( Aga ) and after market burner makers have been aware of this problem and the ONLY alternative is a pressure jet burner -that's one that forces oil and air together in a controlled way and this produces an EFFICIENT BURN! I have been at the "sharp end" of this development fitting a new miniature burner into Agas in Spain and France. First model? A Standard we have installed in Spain, running since October 2004 on Spanish oil.

So if your Aga is a STANDARD MODEL  or a DELUXE solid fuel, or if it has been converted to oil with a wick type burner please get in touch. .We have also supplied this conversion for  the Nobel cooker.

The benefits of this burner are

  • 4 hours from COLD to FULL OVEN HEAT

  • kettle boiling in less than 1 hour from cold

  •  1 service a year -

  •  hotter hot plate and more hot water (if boiler fitted) allowing chips / stir frys on the hob

  • - no reduction in heat between services-

  •  easy servicing by same engineer who does the central heating boiler ( once he has been on our training course) -

  •  may NOT need a chimney, just a vent pipe ( like an oil boiler)  -

  • no more wicks, clogged up pipes , loss of performance between services

  • doesn't need a full chimney, can have a fanned high level discharge

  • auto lighting ( electric  ignition) - hotter water / greater output.

  • Disadvantages .

  • It has a fan and thus generates a noise - classed as "ambient kitchen noise " at about 50 decibels

  •  Needs electricity to work.

We expect the installation cost on cookers already installed ( with suitable flue liner and oil line) to be around £1950 , but estimate that in LESS THAN 5  YEARS you will HAVE TO convert or have to buy a NEW AGA to be able to use  oil.

4 oven versions. Your fitter will adjust  the side wall baffles so the lower oven / hot cupboard will get hot.

Will the Snugburner fit MY AGA?

It will need to have a spacer inside the burner door that gives us the full rectangular size as seen here

The cream Aga WAS a solid fuel one that has had the front casting cut to allow the oil spacer to be fitted. This can be done neatly with a thin bladed 4.5" grinder - it uses about 3 discs - and any cuts are covered by the outer door .We can supply the new spacer ( and a suitable ash pit ( sorry burner box) and barrel and baffle plate if you want to go that route via our sister firm www.agafixspares.com

If your Aga was a GAS or LPG version - with conventional flue - yes it will also take a snugburner but the rectangular hole as seen in the cream photo (with the copper colour pipe coming up through it) needs cutting out

if your Aga has THIS spacer - no the Snugburner wont fit unless the cooker is stripped & it's replaced

early oil/ gas deluxe with separator on left    NO USE!                            solid fuel Aga with dropped ash pit

Bio Diesel. We dont recommend our burner for Bio diesel burning.Ask me why!

And this one is in "Silver Ghost" an unusual colour from the early 70's in Daventry (originally solid fuel)
